Humergy is proud to announce the planned May 2027 launch of the Humergy Innovation Laboratory (HIL), a collaborative research and development environment created to foster the next generation of energy delivery systems on Earth and beyond.

HIL will bring together college students, researchers, engineers, scientists, entrepreneurs and industry professionals to explore a central challenge: how can we deliver the right form of energy to the right place at the right time—safely, efficiently and reliably?

From energy production to intelligent delivery

The world is developing new sources of energy at an extraordinary pace. Yet producing energy is only part of the solution. Communities, businesses, vehicles, machines and future space missions also need systems that can store, route, transfer and deliver energy exactly where it is needed.

HIL will focus on this last-mile challenge of energy: the technologies, infrastructure, software and operating systems that connect energy supplies with the people and equipment that depend on them.

Areas of exploration

  • Mobile and on-demand energy delivery systems that bring fuel, electricity and other energy forms directly to users.

  • Intelligent distribution and routing platforms that forecast demand, coordinate resources and improve delivery efficiency.

  • Energy storage and transfer technologies designed for safer, faster and more flexible service.

  • Workplace and community energy services that make access more convenient for employees, residents and institutions.

  • Fleet and transportation innovations that reduce downtime and support increasingly connected vehicles.

  • Emergency response and resilient delivery networks capable of supporting communities during outages, disasters and supply disruptions.

  • Robotics, automation, wireless power and autonomous systems for remote or hazardous environments.

  • Future energy infrastructure for spacecraft, habitats, rovers and other systems operating beyond Earth.

The problems we intend to solve

HIL projects will examine practical problems across the full energy-delivery journey. These include reducing delivery time and waste, predicting when and where energy will be needed, improving compatibility among different technologies, and building systems that remain dependable during emergencies.

Researchers will also investigate how energy delivery can become more autonomous in remote or hazardous locations, how future spacecraft and surface vehicles might exchange energy, and how new systems can remain affordable, scalable and accessible as they move from prototype to real-world use.

Developing the next generation of problem-solvers

Education and workforce development will be central to the laboratory. HIL is envisioned as a place where emerging talent can work beside experienced professionals and turn ideas into tested systems.

  • Internships, fellowships and university collaborations.

  • Student design challenges and multidisciplinary prototype teams.

  • Technical workshops, mentoring and hands-on research opportunities.

  • Startup development and pathways to commercialization.

  • Training that prepares workers for careers in advanced energy, mobility, automation and space systems.

A pathway from idea to working system

Projects at HIL will follow a practical development process: identify a meaningful problem, assess technical and commercial feasibility, model and design a solution, build a prototype, test safety and performance, analyze the data, refine the design, and prepare promising concepts for field trials, partnerships or commercialization.

This approach will help connect academic discovery with industry experience and real customer needs. The goal is not only to imagine future systems, but also to understand how they can operate responsibly in the environments they are meant to serve.

Looking toward May 2027

As Humergy prepares for the planned launch of HIL in May 2027, we look forward to building relationships with universities, research institutions, public agencies, technology companies, energy providers, transportation leaders and innovators who share our belief that energy delivery deserves focused invention.

The future of energy will be defined not only by what we produce, but by how intelligently energy reaches people, machines and missions. Humergy Innovation Laboratory will work to advance that future—on Earth and beyond.
